New International Measurement Codes

For a long time in Dubai and elsewhere internationally there has been confusion over the different methods and standards used in building measurement. This has been a particular problem in the UAE where there has been a lack of uniform standards which has led to different and non-standard methods used within each Emirate by developers, consultants, valuers and authorities. Finally it looks as if this problem will soon be over with the collaboration of two of the world's principle real estate professional bodies now working together to form an International Property Measurement Standard.

The Royal Institution Of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) have come together to support the new standards that will define how property should be measured in well functioning global real estate markets and will be complimentary to International Valuation and Financial Reporting Standards.

The coalition, which is not restricted to BOMA International and RICS, will shortly begin the standard setting process and look to involve further partners around the world, governments, companies and academia to develop standards that will be owned and adopted across world markets.

Onvizio is a Dubai based Chartered Building Surveying firm which uses RICS surveyors to carry out property inspections and take measurements to calculate and verify floor areas. Using the very latest and most accurate laser measuring equipment we measure property to International RICS Measurement Standards and can produce 'as built' CAD plans and area calculations.
